As a service to its customers, instead of materials belonging exclusively to one branch, WPLS’s collection is open to the entire System. Any customer can request that a book be “put on hold” for them. This can be in their home branch or even from an entirely different library within the Western Plains family.
This service is available online as well as in the physical branches and for both physical and digital materials.
It is also important to note that holds are especially effective when the desired item is already checked out; doing this ensures that you are in line to get that title as soon as possible.
To place a hold on an item, see the following:
Begin by placing your cursor over EXPLORE and click on the WPLS Full Catalog or for specifically digital materials click on the WPLS eCatalog.
Type in the name of the book or the author that you are looking for into the search bar.
Once the title comes up, be sure to make certain that it is in the desired format (Book, eBook, Audiobook, eAudiobook). Click on Place a Hold.
If you have not already logged into your account, you will be asked to do so now.
After logging in, you will be asked to select the branch at which you would like to pick up the book. Then click sumbit hold.
You will be able to tell that the hold was successfully placed immediately by the green banner that will appear towards the top of the screen:
Once you have logged into your account, look in the top right hand corner of the page and click on the red circle with the number. This red circle and number pops up any time something.
Then you will see the following screen and then click on view holds.
You will see your borrowed hold appear.
You will be notified via email or a telephone call when your book can be picked up at the branch you specified in the location drop down menu. If you would like to view the status of your request online, click here to learn how.
If you have any issues or if you need assistance, please do not hesitate to contact your local WPLS library branch.
